FAQ

What kind of wax do you use?

I use a soft (strip) wax formulated for sensitive skin with Azulene, Mica & Titanium dioxide. It is manufactured in Italy and only has 7 ingredients. Almost everyone is surprised at how gentle my wax is.

How long does the hair need to be in order to get waxed?

Your hair needs to be at MINIMUM 1/4” long for the wax to be able to grab on properly to pull it out. 1/4” is about the length of a grain of white rice. If you have been shaving, this means you will need to stop shaving and let your hair grow out for a minimum of 3 weeks. Your hair can never be too long to wax, but it can be too short. There is no need to trim before an appointment.

How long will my wax last?

When you're newer to waxing (transitioning from shaving) your waxes don't last as long at first. This is because shaving encourages multiple hair growth cycles, so while everything that can be waxed when you come in for your service is, there is likely another growth cycle lurking just below the surface that pops up usually about 7-10 days after your wax. Once you've been waxing consistently for a while, your waxes stay clean a lot longer as the hair growth cycles all grow in together so they all get waxed out at the same time. Once you get going with waxing, you will have little to no hair for about 2-3 weeks and you’ll be ready for your next wax in 4-5 weeks.

Are there medications I might be using that mean I can’t be waxed?

Yes. If you are currently on Accutane, or have taken it within the past year you cannot be waxed on any part of the body. If you are using Retin-A, Tretinoin, or any other retinol/vitamin A serums, you must stop using them 5 days before facial waxing. If you are undergoing or have recently undergone cancer treatment or have been on immunosuppressing drugs it is best not to wax. What should I wear to my wax appointment?

You can wear whatever you want to your wax appointment though some prefer to wear looser bottoms (especially if it’s their first wax). I don’t recommend wearing a romper to your wax appointment, otherwise it will just be you and your choices laying on the treatment table ;)

I’m going on a beach vacation! Can I book my wax for the day I have my flight?

While there’s nothing stopping you from booking your wax on the day of your flight, this is not something I recommend unless you have been waxing for a while and know how your skin handles waxing. I don't recommend getting your very first wax right before a trip (meaning like the day before or day of your flight), just in case you have extra skin sensitivities that are easier dealt with when at home vs on an airplane for example. Most everyone is fine after waxing, but I prefer to err on the side of caution.

Should I take anything before my wax?

Some find that taking an over the counter painkiller about 30 mins before their appointment time helps. You can take whatever over the counter pain killer you normally take, but this is completely optional- it is not required that you take anything in order to get waxed.

Should I shave or trim in between my waxes?

No! To get the full benefits of waxing you should not shave or trim in between your waxes. If you do, you could end up with some hairs that are too short to be waxed at your next appointment. Also, shaving does the opposite of waxing to your growth cycles and your waxes will not stay as clean for as long as they would if you only wax. Shaving in between waxes can also give you issues with ingrown hairs.

(If an impromptu pool party comes up or you are going to the lake at the last minute and have to do something, then I recommend ONLY shaving what would show outside of your swim bottoms. Meaning, shave the least amount possible and know that it would be two weeks before that hair will be long enough to wax again. This is a strategy that some of my clients use during the summer so that they can continue to get all their benefits from waxing, while staying swimsuit ready. If this is a strategy you’d like to use in summer, then let me know at your wax appointment and I will coach you on how to do it to get maximum benefits).
